Every year in November I say the same thing, I’m going to write once a day something I’m thankful for. And as usual life gets busy and I make excuses and never do. Well this Month of November I decided that I am going to see it through (even though I am starting a couple days late).
November 1st – All Saint’s day (Dia de todos los Santos)
What I posted on my facebook page:
“A day to remember those loved ones that are no longer with us. May the angels watch over us from a happy place. They are greatly missed.”
What I’m thankful for is that my Grandfather in his 84 years of life has done amazing things and touched so many people’s lives. I’m grateful that we shared the same birthday day, and that I grew up spending summers with him, and even though he was so hard working and I didn’t get to spend as much time as I would have liked to, he taught me songs, some secret recipes, that drinking milk was important, and how to make a banana split amongst several others. And I’m left with the reminder that he just left the physical world but will always be in my heart.
and for the Spanish part… what was posted on my Facebook:
“El dia en que el recuerdo de los seres queridos que ya no estan fisicamente con nosotros me pone un poco triste. Pero se que los nuevos angeles nos velan desde algun lugar donde estan felices.”
What I’m actually thankful for is that this summer I went to Spain and I got to spend some time with my Abuela, she looked great and it was great to see her and have my daughter spend time with her. She asked me lots of questions about what was going on in my life and as I kept telling her about all the good things, she smiled. I came back to Austin and she passed away a couple weeks later. I kind of had the feeling that she passed happily after knowing all of the family was ok. Abuela would have turned 97 this thanksgiving and she was truly an amazing woman, who I have always with me in my heart, but she is engrained in the one thing I do most every day and that is a passion of mine, cooking. She will live in my cooking for as long as I roam this world and I will pass it on to my little sous chef and hopefully continue on. That is what I’m eternally happy and thankful about!

Thank you, I appreciate the comment!! It’s been really gratifying to reflect at the end of the day of the things and people that made my day better 🙂

I love this idea of writing something that you are grateful for every day. You have inspired me to do the same and to get the kids involved. Thanks!
