On November 5th even though I was up by 7am (darn body clock) the days started out great and on the right foot.
I spent most of the day with hubby taking down ALL of the Halloween decor around the house (and outside), it was nice to spend time with him and I even made a nice bagel egg/veggie sausage/cheese and hash browns brunch that was pretty good if I must say so myself!
What I’m actually thankful for this day is for having Anjanette and Rafa as such good friends. Yesterday they hosted a dinner party to celebrate “dia del muerto”. The house was decorated, the altar was beautiful, they made cochinita which was absolutely delicious and then of course there was a lot of other goodies that my tummy fully enjoyed.
The thankfulness expands to not just having them as good friends, nor to eating great food (although those 2 would be sufficient). It goes a little further, last night I met new friends (yes friends, not just one) and I was pleasantly surprised that sitting at a table, drinking wine/tequila and talking talking talking, and listening to music, and bringing the guitar out and singing which lead to hubby playing DJ via Spotify, which led to dancing and lots of laughter and memories of old songs we liked and one hit wonders and then changing the clocks an hour back, and that meaning that we just did all the above for an hour more! So much fun.
As an adult it is very hard to make friends, we get more lazy about meeting new people usually, and I know that personally I wasn’t feeling very social yesterday, but as everything always happens for a reason it was so refreshing to meet a group of people who you have things in common with, things to talk about, experiences to share, that bring joy and laughter. Because I’m usually (98% of the time) the only Spaniard I get cultured with Mexican flavor and I get to impose my Spanish thoughts here and there (hehehe) and the combo of both is so much fun!
For all the above I am grateful, more grateful than any of those wonderful people I met yesterday even realize how they touched my heart and reminded me that the gift of friendship and culture and reminiscing is one of the best things we have.
So to all of them – GRACIAS, GRACIAS de todo corazon!
