What we learned today

Carolina came home cheery as usual, finished up some homework and is allowed to watch some TV while I finish up some work in my office.

She runs in all excited!
lil c: Mommy Mommy did you know Neil Armstrong was born on August 5th? Not on the same year of course!
Me: um no, that’s cool. do you know who he is?
lil c: yeah he’s the very 1st one to step on the moon
Me: very good, what else do you know?
Lil c: I don’t know much more but we can google him on the ipad

lil c: maybe one day I’ll be famous since we shared birthdays…

Got to love technology and our gadgets… Sure enough we googled him on my ipad, so she saw pics of Apollo 11, and of Neil Armstrong and the rest of the crew… She liked the photo below which we found on Wikipedia 🙂

But what she thought was really cool was what the actual step looked like… Then I shared what I remember learning was Armstrong’s 1st words: “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Now on that statement she wasn’t so sure… guess it needs a little more explaining. It’s giving me de ja vu of the conversation we had about tapes and records before ipods and others… It’s a bit hard to visualize what the world was like before you had all the technology that we have now and that our kids were born into.   These conversations are always interesting!
