So many years living in Caceres when I was young, so many years coming to visit my family and I had never gone up the trail to the top of the Mountain to visit the Ermita del Risco. Really it’s a shame because the views of Caceres and it’s surrounding towns is spectacular!
So one breezy afternoon we decided to head up there. The street that takes you up (and down) is narrow as can be, really you go up hoping no one is coming down! When you are almost at the top, there’s a bit of a landing where you can park the car and then walk up the rest of the way.

Actually, a lot of people walk the whole way up, especially the week before September 14th, where the whole town holds different festivities to celebrate the town, especially on the 14th which is the day of Saint Risco, the Patron of the town of Sierra de Fuentes and the 15th which is the day they do the Mass. You just have to love the traditions of small towns in Spain, they take their festivities and honors of their town very seriously. The food, the music and different activities are joyful even in the smallest of towns.
We weren’t able to go into the Chapel as it was closed, but we did climb up all the way up to the little tower.

View from the little town outside of Caceres called “Sierra de Fuentes”which is where my parents live now. In the far distance you can see other towns as well like Trujillo (the town with the castle subject of another one of my blog posts last year).

Also can see the Embalse de Guadiloba, where they’ve created a nice restaurant, with park and 3 pools, perfect spot to go with a group of friends to spend the afternoon.

The Weather station is that white big circle that you see in the distance
Inside the tower in the landing, you can see the pattern on the ceiling. Then you go up a very narrow set up steps to the roof top. Some pictures we took:

As we went down the path to head back to the car, I noticed this huge boulder on an incline, actually it seems as if in any moment it could tumble down. I couldn’t resist the temptation of the silly picture, so I had Mom and Dad do this:
We got in the car and resumed to go back down. The way down is scarier than the way up, also hoping that you aren’t going to encounter anyone on that narrow path!
It was a fun little excursion! Great views!
