We were working at the booth and an old man came up to buy cookies from us. He looked at all the cookie boxes that had on display and asked me if I had the peanut butter sandwiches.

I pointed at the orange box and told him that this year the boxes had been updated to reflect all the new things girl scouts do now days. He looked at the box and smiled. I told him how the girls had made their posters the weekend before and were excited about selling cookies as they were trying to sell enough boxes to earn a camping trip to Fossil Rim in the Spring. He smiled again.

He said that it was his favorite box since he was young. And then he told us the sweetest story…

He said my Mom used to buy me a box every year from this girl scout that lived in his neighborhood, he thought she was the prettiest girl in the world. They went to school together and were high school sweethearts and then got married. So he still buys a box of peanut butter sandwiches every time he sees girl scouts in her remembrance.

So he bought his box of cookies and gave us a donation to help the girls go to camp.

As he walked away I wiped my tear off my cheek, he reminded me of the old man in Up. Remember the beginning of UP when Carl meets Ellie…Now that’s a sweet story to remember that there are a lot of nice people out there, you just need to find them 😉
