After all the work of selling Girl Scout Cookies this season, my troop earned to go on a trip to Fossil Rim Wild Life Center.
After school we packed up the car with suitcases, sleeping bags, pillows, dolls, snacks, you name it! and our Roadtrip began… I have a list on Spotify that has all of Carolina’s songs, so I played that for them and there was a lot and a lot of singing all the way to Glen Rose, TX. I decided to take the scenic route instead of I-35 and it was beautiful as we strolled through towns, it rained pretty hard on us about 3 times, but we made it safe and sound to our La Quinta Inn where we were staying the one night.
The girls who had each brought their American Girls Doll, soon camped out and created a little house for them where they played until pizza arrived. They had quite fun to say the least.
The next morning we got up early, had breakfast and headed over to Fossil Rim to meet up with the rest of the troop.
1st activity was to paint our magnets which were going to use as trade ins for geocaching activity later that afternoon.

Next activity was our nature walking and hiking where we learned about native trees, flowers, birds… followed by fossil digging.

We had our brown bag lunches on picnic tables at the cafe that had beautiful views of the wildlife area that we would be going on a tour shortly after.

We had some time to check out the store and get a few souvenirs and then we got on our Rhino safari bus for our 2hr tour of the wild life center, where we got to see and feed Rhinos, emus, ostriches, deer, goats, giraffes, zebras… Gallery of some of the pics taken of the animals we got to see and feed.
What a great time! In our bit of free time, we went to the petting zoo area and saw baby emus, goats, pigs, different birds and turtles.
It was then time to go learn about how they take care of animals here at Fossil Rim. We even got to shoot “blow dart guns” and I hit bullseye! 🙂

Next activity was to learn about nature journaling. The girls did a wonderful job at capturing nature with drawings, writing poems and such in their journals.

Then we got ready for dinner at the restaurant. Such spectacular views of where we had been touring before. They made us yummy lasagna with green beans and salad. Of course we had seconds 😉
Then we learned about geocaching. We went on a trial hunt of 3 coordinates so the girls could learn how to use the hand held gps and then we went on our own geocaching hunt.
The Girls had a great time going through the trails on the search of our coordinates, they got to leave the magnets that they had painted and traded it in for other prizes that other kids had left in the boxes. It was fun!

We walked back to the campsite to change clothes and get all of our materials out for s’mores making, campfire making and lots of singing.

The culmination of the night was stargazing, learning about constellations and looking through big telescopes.
We called it a night around 10:30ish but the girls played until midnight with their dolls and making things with duct tape before they finally got into their sleeping bags for sleeping time.

The next morning, we got up early to pack everything back up and head to breakfast and saying goodbye to Fossil Rim to head back home to celebrate Mother’s day.
We had a blast!
