It’s always tough to wake up early when you are on vacation… But we are hitting the road, leaving Texas to our next destination: Louisiana.
After breakfast of champions (eggs, sausage and waffles) we hit the road but 1st we head to downtown to our 1st surprise “wacky roadtrip stop” for the girls!
So this memorial ground is in honor of the 9/11 brave firefighters who died in line of duty. There is also a museum and some other things around to take a look at. We didn’t have time, so we just hung out and took pics in the plaza!
It’s in a very cute plaza and the fire hydrant is HUUUUGE at 24Ft. it was at it’s time the largest, but not anymore. Regardless if you are in this area, this is worth a detour quick 10-15 mins stop, especially if you have kids. (address: 400 Walnut St, Beaumont, TX 77701)
All the fire hydrants Are painted Dalmatian which just makes it even cuter and since it’s that time of year… Christmas decor also exists.
We kissed Texas bye-bye and crossed to Louisiana State!
We saw Lake Charles by car and we decided we definitely need to come back here for a mini vacation because it’s absolutely beautiful! (pic on left)
We arrived in LaFayette and headed over to see St John’s Cathedral which is beautiful!
A surprise is that they have a 500 year old oak tree on the grounds which is gorgeous in all its magnitude!
(of course the pics don’t do this justice)

After the scenic spot we headed to Breaux Bridge for lunch at Café des Amis.
Café des Amis is a historic building that’s been there since 1890. It’s quaint inside and the staff is extremely friendly. We got the premium spot in the window showcase, which looked like we were on display At an antique shop. Reminded me of my aunt Sue’s wonderful displays in her flower shop 🙂

I highly recommend it! We had as an appetizer the “crawfish alligator sausage cheesecake” I know it sounds weird but I promise it was delicious, my girls especially loved it! The gumbo was very tasty and the poboys were good too. Topped with a coffee we were ready to head out on to the next adventure: NOLA
On the road towards NOLA we went over endless bridges over swamps which was an interesting sight, never seen anything like it really! It left us wondering if there was alligators down there and what would happen if the bridge collapsed! Fun roadtrip convo while in back to back traffic.
One thing that’s nice about using GPS is when it reroutes you to save time in traffic. It took us on scenic route in what felt like the middle of nowhere, reminded us of the walking dead! Conversations on roadtrips are just more fun ha!
And then we finally make it to NOLA! We arrived to the French Quarters and the 1st thing we see is a lady with no shirt on. It was then the girls got what I meant that this place is a little different 😳
1st things first, Beignets and hot cocoa of course at the famous Café du Monde.
Absolutely delicious just as we anticipated, didn’t disappoint and there was no wait, so that was even a bigger plus!
We walked around, went into multiple stores, got some voodoo fun in, got some good juju items and souvenirs, walked around took a lot of pictures and did a lot of people watching with lots and lots and LOTS of laughs, I think the girls have now seen it all!

Finalized our NOLA experience at the Gumbo Pot which I must say the YaYa gumbo was THE best! as well as the Boudin balls appetizer.

And on a happy tummy we say goodbye to a fun filled day in Louisiana,
we are off to Mississippi where we will actually spend the night!
