Roadtrip Day 9 – Atlanta

We woke up early so we would have enough time to visit more things before we had to hit the road again. The one nice thing about waking up early is catching a sunrise, and Atlanta gave us a beautiful good morning!

Our 1st stop was The World of Coca-Cola.

Our host, Felicia,  Told us about the history of the company, the advertising, the paraphernalia, milestones, etc. For example it’s the 100 year anniversary of the glass bottle. Or that after Coke, the 2nd product was Orange Fanta!

You can browse at your own leisure the rest of exhibits. One of my favorites is the advertising section, must be that marketeer in me 😉 some of my faves below

All the artifacts were fun too! You could even make your own Coke bottle art, which was cool, here’s Carolina’s

They have interactive experiences throughout, 4D theatre, tasting of Coca Cola products around the world which was a lot of fun, meet and greet with “Bear” and several other photo ops as well as a visit to The Vault with what must be the best kept secret of all times!

You leave through the gift shop with a bottle of coke and you are left perusing all merchandise they have available.
Needless to say we had a blast! From there we headed to the Football Hall of fame.

You start out with personalizing your ID they give you with your name and alma mater or favorite college football team. That way throughout your experience you get personalized info such as this

As you enter down the hall you face the awesome wall full of helmets, one from each team. Pretty impressive and of course my pic doesn’t do it justice. It was fun to spot SU, UT, Aggies, Baylor, Texas tech…

There are a lot of interactive experiences, like planning your Best play, singing the fight song for your team, etc. there’s a whole section of hands on including kick and try to score field goal, run and catch ball, etc. Fun place!

We didn’t have enough time to do the CNN tour but we did go in to browse around. Fascinating set up really, a bit bummed we didn’t get to take the tour.

All in all pretty impressed with downtown Atlanta, it is really nice with a ton to do. Glad we decided to go up a little out of our way to make this stop happen!!

Our last stop before saying goodbye was to eat Georgia style BBQ. We went to Smoke Ring. The brisket, pork belly, sausage and fried okra were delicious! With a happy tummy we hit the road Louisiana bound.

As we traveled through the state of Georgia heading to Alabama we got to enjoy beautiful fall leaves, fiery reds and oranges with some yellows. Reminds me of my years living in Syracuse where Fall was my favorite season.

Unfortunately it gets dark so soon that we zipped by Alabama and Mississippi in pitch darkness pretty much until we finally made it Shreveport for some much needed rest, we are almost home!

The girls thought it was crazy that we went through 4 states in one afternoon 🙂
