Girls Night out – a tale of importance to the littlest girl
On Monday 7/25 the Melting Pot had a special “Chic Boutique Ladies night out” that I thought would be a great idea to take advantage of, since I love eating there.
I gathered my closest friends and made a reservation for us to eat there at 6. As I picked up my daughter from robot camp, knowing she had spent the day with all boys, I thought she could use a girls night out too, so I brought her along. What I had no idea, was that this outing was going to be a highlight for my lil c!
We got ready, and I told her to help me choose 3 purses that I didn’t want to use anymore so we could bring them in. Part of what was going on that night was that everyone would bring a gently used purse, you could exchange it for another one you like and what wasn’t exchanged would be donated to “Dress for Success of Austin”
We arrived at the restaurant, gave our purses (We got raffle tickets for each purse we donated) and we sat down. My lil c had been eyeing all the purses and had seen a few she liked! she was so excited!
She had never been to the Melting Pot and was keen to this “make your own food” and how we were treating her like one of the girls, talking about girl stuff and laughing a lot. We enjoyed the traditional Swiss and then the Artichoke and cheese to start out with, followed by the special of the night, which brought shrimp, chicken with mole, beef with chimichurri and veggies… but the best part for all of us of course was the dessert “Dark chocolate fondue” which for one time I forgot I was “mommy” and just let her indulge just like we were all indulging 😉 She appreciated every second of it!
By the end of the night. once we paid we were able to go check out the purses and pick which one you wanted to take home with you… so we all picked, my lil c spent about 40 mins trying to decide which of the 3 purses she liked best. Talk about a girlie girl, I knew by just looking at her trying on the purses, checking out the pockets, walking around with it… that I am going to be in sooooo much trouble once those teenage years hit! but it was adorable to watch her take it so seriously.
Since we car-pooled, I dropped off all the girls at home and on our way back to our house, lil c told me: “Mommy who knew that Girl nights were so much fun! Thank you so much for including me, please take me again on the next one! ”
I chuckled and told her that some Girl nights aren’t quite the same… her reply: “I know I can’t go to the bars, but maybe when I’m of age I can go with you” I burst out laughing, I almost had to stop the car! So I said: “honey when you are 21, you are not going to want to go to bars with me, trust me!” to what she replied: “You are one of those cool mommy’s though, not an old lady like some others.” And there we go, she made my day/night/heart melt!
I thought it would end there, but little did I know she was telling her teacher about girls night, and her friends… I guess it was a huge deal! From now on I’ll have to let my lil c be one of us (on occasion).

You ARE a cool mommy! Teaching her about reusing, giving, great food… showing her the world! What a great way to grow up.
