In remembrance of our dear old “Skipper”

11/26 we had to say goodbye to a dear member of our family.
His name was Skipper and he was an amazing dog who we had the pleasure of sharing our home and life with for 12 years. Mom and Dad got him when he was only a couple of weeks old, he slept in my Mom’s slipper and my Dad had to feed him with a baby bottle. I was off to College so I didn’t meet the baby boy until he was 5 months old, he was furry, and had huuuuuuuuuge paws. He was always jumping around and wanted to be with me, I knew we would be good pals. He would climb up the stairs to sleep with me and then didn’t know how to get back downstairs, so I had to carry him down…
Everyone that came to the house loved Skipper, he would greet you with a bear hug, lick you on the face and then run to the sewers and bark and bark and bark like crazy (never really knew why he did that) but it was his way to show excitement, then it was to get his ball so you would play with him, oh yeah and he peed on the back wheel of the car to mark it, it was like he made sure that car was acceptable to be part of the household, we all laughed.
One day I arrived home for the weekend to tell my parents that I was pregnant, I came in through the garage and to my surprise Skipper just brushed against me but didn’t jump on me, yeah he was that smart to know he couldn’t pounce on my belly! And let me tell you when Carolina was born he used to lay down right next to her crib and would come running to bark to tell me that she was awake or crying. Again he was a smart dog!
Carolina as she grew into her toddler years absolutely adored him! He was bigger than her but she wasn’t afraid, he was gentle and fun.  He knew his audience.
Over the years my parents gathered quite the zoo! It’s because Skipper rescued quite a few kitties that got stranded, such a nurturing dog, the cats adored him, always slept next to him and followed him around, not sure if they thought they were dogs too hehehe. Every single thing about Skipper was endearing to say the least.
The Picture I posted above was from this summer, where I got to see the last of my pal. It’s sad for me to realize I won’t see him again as I loved coming home and seeing him, but I know that he’s in a better place where he can run again, where he hasn’t aged, knowing him he’s probably watching over other little animals because that’s just the way he was.
Run and rest in peace my friend you are and were very loved by all of us, we will miss you but we will never forget the little piece of our hearts that you will always fill.
Your “big Sister”
Cristi

Sorry for your loss C. I am dreading the day I will have to say goodbye to any of my pups. Skipper sounded like a wonderful dog.

Thanks Danielle! It’s sad but I guess part of life, my grieving heart has wanted to focus on all the good things he gave me and now that they are in writing, I won’t forget any of it!
