A wine and dinner night out

Today we went to Tony C’s for a dinner wine tasting featuring the Antinori Family Vineyards with my parents and some of our neighbors.
We got there a little early, so we started out by finding our table and having an aperitif, in my case one of my favorites here a Prickly pear prosecco cocktail
Here is our menu carefully prepared and selected to be paired with our wine

What follows is a few pics of our wine and food pairings.
The Antipasti was delicious, Ribollita is a hearty tuscan soup. This one was served more as a creme and reminded me of a nice hearty minestrone soup. It paired well with the prosecco which was fresh, not sweet but not tart either, great balance.
The Tortelli was interesting, a little dry for my liking, the best thing on that plate really was the onion sugo with fennel, very different, and so good. This was paired with a Chardonnay, which in most cases is very dry, not this one! This one was actually a little frutier, reminded me of a pinot grigio and definitely a good wine that I would pick for summer served nice and cold.
The Ribeye was excellent, all I have to say is I would have liked to have the full ribeye thank you very much! I was not impressed by the Red wine served. It was a mix of Cabernet with Syrah and Merlot. Despite the 65% Cabernet, it was very much more mellow like a Merlot and did not have enough body for that Ribeye we were eating. A little disappointing on that end.
For Dolce, the poached peaches were interesting, they were quite tart, but the acidity was well capped off by the mascarpone (one of the best I have every had!!!) I would have totally wanted a whole spoon or two more please! I’m not a fan of sweet wines, this reminded me a lot of Port Wine or Spanish Jerez, a little lighter. I can’t say it was bad or good, I just don’t care for sweet wines at all.
Really but what more can I say that it was all delicious and the company was excellent!

This looks so yummy! Love Kathleen
